AP/SUNY Civil War short answer questions for a quiz grade

Directions- Complete the following questions using AMSCO

I:  Explain the events of Gettysburg/Vicksburg/Sherman’s March and how they led to the end of the Civil War:

II:  Election of 1864- explain it in detail.

III. How did the Civil War end?  (Grant outlasted Lee but explain and summarize)

IV: What were the effects of the Civil War on civilian life-summarize?  Talk in detail about details of civilian life, political change, the draft, and the political dominance of the north. (279-280)

V:  In detail, explain what the economic change was following the war in regards to financing the war and the modernization of the northern economy.

VI: Economic Change During the Civil War (pg 281 AMSCO)- Explain 4 major ones.

VII: Discuss women at work during the war and the end of slavery.

DBQ essay DUE on Monday, December 21st

Look on PAGE 315 of your AMSCO book.  There will you find a DBQ on the steps to the Civil War.  There are 7 documents and you are expected to use and label each of them in their usage like (Doc 1) this.  The essay should have a clear thesis statement in the introduction paragraph and should read like this:

“The Civil War was not inevitable; it was a result of extremism and failures of leadership on both sides IS a valid statement in regards to _________, _________, and _________.”

or

“The Civil War was not inevitable; it was a result of extremism and failures of leadership on both sides IS a valid statement in regards to _________, _________, although it was inevitable because of ________.”

or

“The Civil War was not inevitable; it was a result of extremism and failures of leadership on both sides IS NOT a valid statement in regards to __________, __________, and _________.”

REMEMBER- YOU MUST HAVE OUTSIDE INFORMATION!!! USE THE INFORMATION FROM YOUR JOURNAL ENTRIES.

This is to be completed during break for ALL AP/SUNY US History students.

APUSH/SUNY Work Over Winter Break:

  1. Page 265 to 267 include 4 short answer questions with various parts.  Select any 2 of these short-answer questions and complete them.
  2. Read and annotate Chapter 14. Then create an outline that will serve as useful for a brief group project and a quiz in the days that we return.
  3. EXTRA CREDIT:  Watch the movie “Lincoln” and write a critical analysis.  I will then orally quiz you on the movie.
